One Day Introduction to Using Your Digital Camera

This practical, hands-on course taught by award winning photographer Kate Nolan will introduce beginners to digital photography and how to get the most out of their cameras.

You will get an introduction to your camera’s semi manual and manual controls and will get to know the potential of your camera, basic camera functions and exposure. This course will also enable you to apply a practical and theoretical knowledge to help you use a digital camera effectively and creatively.

You will be given the chance to shoot in the streets around the gallery, followed by a review of your work with the course tutor.

– How to work your camera in semi manual and full manual modes

– How to use ISO, shutter speed and aperture to get the correct exposure

– What white balance and metering settings to use in various situations

– File formats (RAW + JPEG) explained

– Overview of focusing, flash, lenses and filters

– Composition: what makes your images interesting and how to achieve creative camera effects.


Kate Nolan

 

Kate Nolan is a photographic artist, freelance photographer and educator based in Dublin. Her work has been shown internationally at various institutions and festivals including Benaki Museum, Athens, Greece; Centre Culturel Irlandais, Paris, France; Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin, Ireland; Center for Emerging Visual Artists, Philadelphia, USA and Photo Katmandu, Nepal. Nolan’s work has been featured in a wide range of photography publications and exhibited in solo and group shows in Ireland and internationally. Her work is held in public and private collections in Japan, USA, France, Portugal, Mexico, UK and Ireland. Clients include: Airbnb, Fillit, Designist, Charlie Bird, University of Birmingham, Trinity College Dublin and Yes Equality.

Where does the course take place?
This workshop is held in the Gallery of Photography LightRoom, which is located on the top floor of our building in Meeting House Square, Temple Bar, Dublin 2.

How do I book a place?
In order to secure a place we advise that you book well in advance as places are heavily oversubscribed. You may book by calling into the Gallery in person, or by telephone. We regret that we cannot accept bookings by email – please telephone to check availability of places.
