Liisa Lounila August 15 - September 19, 2007 The Gallery of Photography is delighted to announce the Irish premiere of work by Finnish artist Liisa Lounila. Lounila is one of the up and coming stars of the international art scene. Her intriguing projected time-slice works, seen at Venice and Istanbul Biennials, are fascinating explorations of the space between still and moving images. Using methods normally associated with blockbuster action movies, Liisa Lounila has created a set of digital projections from a series of time-slice images. Each sequence represents a single moment, captured from an array of perspectives. The projections jerkily snake the observer through crowds of twenty-somethings. These cool young sophisticates are caught in the frivolous acts of drinking, flirting and naturally, popcorn throwing. Set to electro-goth-ambient-electronica soundtracks, the projections are energetic, ethereal, provocative – and extremely entertaining. A number of rolling text LED belt buckles and a series of lenticular light box prints complement the projections. Exhibition supported by the Arts Council, Nokia Nseries, Alfred Kordelin Foundation, Finnish Cultural Foundation, and the Finnish Embassy in Ireland. Gallery of Photography is open: Tuesday - Saturday 11am-6pm and on Sunday from 1pm-6pm For press scans, or to arrange an interview, please Telephone 01-6714654 or Email: info@galleryofphotography.ie |
