• Artist: Fergus Bourke
  • Biography: (1934 – 2004) Born in Dublin in 1934 Fergus Bourke has exhibited widely in Ireland and internationally. His work spans many genres is in many private and public collections including that of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Eye Hand and Heart, Bourke’s 40-year retrospective exhibition, marked the 25th anniversary of the Gallery of Photography. It was the Gallery's third solo show of Bourke's work and formed the centrepiece to ‘Fergus Bourke – In His Own Words’, a major documentary about the artist by Art O’Briain. His books include: Mother Ireland with Edna O'Brien, Kindred - The Portrait Collection 1983-1991; and Connemara Blues with John O'Donoghue and Landscapes of the Soul. He was a member of Aosdana until his death in 2004. The piece in the current exhibition, Fierce Fighting In Gurteen, was the poster image for Bourke’s retrospective, Eye, Hand and Heart.
