• Artist: Amelia Stein
  • Biography: Born in Dublin in 1958, Amelia Stein has worked as a freelance photographer since 1981. She participated in the Contemporary Irish Photography group exhibiitons organised in 1987 and 1989; held a solo exhibition, Solomon’s Children here in 1991 and in 1995 she showed Triur Ban, an award-winning collaborative project with poet Nuala Ni Dhomhnaill and dancer/choreographer Cindy Cummings. She has exhibited in numerous solo exhibitions at the Rubicon Gallery, Dublin, including The Palm House, based on her residency at the Botanic Gardens in 2001, and Loss+Memory, 2002. In 2003 she was the first photographer to be elected a member of the Royal Hibernian Academy. Her work is in many public collections, including The Arts Council of Ireland , Municipal Collection, Limerick City Gallery, Office of Public Works, Contemporary Arts Society Ireland, Gulbenkian Foundation UK, and in private collections in Ireland, Europe and USA. In 2006 she was elected a member of Aosdana. The piece in the current exhibition is Sile na gig from Triur Ban.
