• Artist: Tony Murray
  • Biography: Born in Kilkenny in 1955, Tony Murray graduated in Fine Art from NCAD in 1977. He began working as a freelance photographer and subsequently as a cameraman for RTE before becoming a lecturer in photography, video and multimedia production at DIT. In 1978 is was awarded an Arts Council bursary – the first to be awarded to a photographer.  In addition to his photographic work he has also co-written a text book A Guide to Irish Politics and directed a number of television documentaries for RTE, BBC and UTV.  His photographic work has appeared in several solo and group shows and in publications such as Creative Camera and the British Journal of Photography. His solo exhibition include: Holy Pictures (Gallery of Photography and Impressions Gallery, York) 1978/9, and Snaps (Gallery of Photography) 1981. His group shows include: Sense of Ireland (Photographer Gallery, London) 1979, Six Irish Photographerss (1990). Documentary Active Age Retirement Group (The Irish Museum of Modern Art) 1991.
